Gay Rights Future

Gay Rights Future

Did Obama make a serious mistake by not repealing "Do not Ask, Do not Tell" last weekend at the rally for gay rights?

Considering that the neocons are smart enough to focus on one issue at a time and repealing DADT would have had the burden away reform health care this week and put in a outroar neocons on the repeal of DADT for the foreseeable future?

I think yes because Obama is commander in chief, it is his call and responsibility to repeal "do not ask, do not tell". I see rescind the policy based on national security. Maybe I see "do not ask, do not tell" a little perspective different because I served in the Army and worked with gays in the military. Therefore, I look at the issue from the point of view clearances for security / safety risk, then the national security. Anyone who has obtained a security clearance measurement confirm that the main purpose of the security paperwork, background checks and interviews is to identify risk factors (family members living in "hostile nations' financial issues," secrets ", etc.) that could be used to compromise (blackmail) the person requesting the permit. One of the last questions asked was whether there is anything else, are not covered by the questions earlier could be a security risk. This question is the Catch 22 for a homosexual person in the military that actually one compromising situation, so a security risk. Get rid of secrecy, the security risk goes away.
